How It Works

 

Raw water enters the vessel under pressure and flows downward through the media bed, where suspended solids are trapped between the media grains. The secret to its performance lies in the media design: a carefully layered bed — typically gravel support, sand, and anthracite — arranged from coarse to fine. This graduated structure allows contaminants to penetrate deep into the bed rather than forming a surface layer, maximizing dirt-holding capacity and extending filter runs between cleanings.

 

When the bed becomes loaded, an automatic control valve switches the unit into backwash mode: water flows upward through the media, lifting and flushing the trapped solids out to drain, before a short rinse cycle returns the filter to service. The entire sequence runs automatically — no manual intervention required.
